The boys’ take on a baby

**Written July 19

Tonight when Chris got back from his week-long fishing trip, I showed him the latest ultrasound photos. A few minutes later, Carter joined us at the table, talking a-mile-a-minute about 4-year-old stuff. As he did, he picked up the ultrasound photo and was looking at it, almost subconsciously. He then ended his run-on sentence with, “Hey, what is this?

Me: What do you think it is?

Carter: Are we having another baby?

Me: What would make you ask that?

Carter: ‘Cause when we got the last baby, we had these pictures!

We decided to tell him that yes, we are having another baby and this one will come from Mommy as well. He immediately smiled and asked, “Is it twins?!!!”. He was disappointed to be told no. Just a couple of weeks ago he announced that he wanted twins, one boy and one girl. When I explained that only God could decide if we would have more babies and if there would be twins and if they’d be boys or girls, he decided that we needed to pray right then and there. It went something like this:

Dear God, please give us twins, one boy and one girl. Please hurry, like tonight. Thank you. And please send superman and batman and angels and Jesus to protect me when I sleep.

So, no twins, but he was still very excited and started trying to name it. Little Chris if it is a boy and Emminee (Spelling?) if it is a girl.

We told Coen right after and he was fine with it. No excitement. There may have been a smile, but it was short lived. He had built something in the playroom that he wanted Daddy to see. He’s a busy guy. Priorities, people.
